Benefits

Shiatsu is an incredibly effective way to treat pain and ease emotional stress. The long-holding pressure used during a shiatsu treatment activates the parasympathetic nervous system. This gives your body a break from the state of high alertness and intensity many of us need to maintain in order to get through our busy days. Your body's attention shifts to the internal organs: your peripheral muscles and nerves relax, digestive organs become more active, secretions increase, blood pressure and heart rate decline, your busy mind quiets and in general, your body prepares to relax and heal. On top of all of this, the pain and stress you came in with will be greatly reduced.

Conditions Shiatsu Helps: Back Pain, Neck and Shoulder Pain, Anxiety, Depression and Fatigue, Stress, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Repetitive Strain Injury, Arthritis, Bursitis, Joint Pain and Fibromyalgia, Sciatica, Spinal Stenosis, Sports Injuries, Pregnancy-related issues, Insomnia.

Shiatsu for Children (8-12)

I love working with children and am grateful when I have the opportunity to help a child feel better. We tend to think of children’s lives as being carefree, but often that is not the case. Children can be living in homes where there is a lot of tension and stress, they may experience difficulties at school, anxiety trying to navigate their social groups, and their bodies are developing so quickly they often have general aches and pains. Shiatsu is an excellent tool to help soothe and quiet a child’s mind while also easing the physical discomfort they’re experiencing.

Shiatsu for Teenagers

Teenagers are under an enormous amount of pressure and it’s not uncommon for them to experience periods of emotional and physical turmoil. Their bodies are going through rapid change and the demands on them are high. Many teenagers are juggling school, competitive sports, part-time jobs, family and peer groups. I really enjoy working with teens. It is very rewarding to see the changes they experience during a session as their emotional stress lifts and they feel relief from their aches and pains.

How To Prepare
For Your Session

Shiatsu is done clothed, so it is best to wear loose or stretchy comfortable clothing that doesn’t inhibit joint movement. You can bring clothes to change into if that is easiest for you.

How Often Do I Need Shiatsu?

If you generally feel well and want to maintain your good health, having a session once a month will allow you to stay on top of any problems that might emerge between appointments and keep you healthy. If there is a specific problem to work on, then you will need weekly treatments until your symptoms subside. This allows us to build on the changes made from the previous session. The more chronic the condition, the longer it will take to resolve. The goal is to slowly decrease the regularity of treatments and shift to a maintenance program.
